G.O.O.S. Bin Design Challenge and Crayola Challenge

G.O.O.S. Bin Design Challenge

Calling all Pine Grove students! Your class probably already has a G.O.O.S. (Good On One Side) Paper bin, but now it’s time to get those creative juices flowing! All homeroom classes are encouraged to design and make a creative G.O.O.S. Paper bin. Members of the eco club will be photographing all entries at the end of January. Winners from each division will receive a prize and will be honoured during our February awards assembly.

Crayola ColorCycle Challenge 2017

The eco club will be continuing a past initiative of participating in the Crayola ColorCycle Challenge. The goal is for every class to collect all dried out markers - even if they aren’t Crayola markers. Each class will receive a bag for their collection. Markers will be counted at the end of March and the eco club will announce who our champions are. The winning class will receive a prize and be honoured for their accomplishments at the following awards assembly. Pine Grove volunteers will ship our collection back to Crayola to recycle. This exciting school wide initiative helps to keep plastic out of landfills. Thank you for your continued support.

Litterless/Boomerang Lunches

Did you know that school lunches are a major source of waste in Ontario? In fact, the average student’s lunch generates a total of 30 kilograms of waste per school year, or an average of 8,500 kilograms of waste per school per year.

A litterless lunch is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment - and your wallet! A litterless lunch is simply that. It is a lunch that creates no waste! It involves the elimination of disposable products and encourages use of reusable containers. The goal of a litterless lunch is to reduce waste production, and therefore help to reduce our impact on the Earth.

Why pack a litterless lunch?
  • It reduces packaging waste
  • It's cheaper
  • It's healthier

What is a Boomerang Lunch?
A boomerang lunch is a lunch that has every piece of it return to its source. In other words, everything in the lunch goes back home at the end of the day. No matter if it is leftover food, containers, recyclables or garbage, it all goes back. Yes, even the garbage.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Pine Grove will be participating in Litterless/Boomerang Lunches. The eco club will be coming around to cover your garbage bins as a reminder to take all of your garbage home.
